Leopard Sharks in La Jolla: When & Where to See Them

Every summer, thousands of harmless leopard sharks gather in the shallow waters of La Jolla Shores.

They migrate to the area between June and September, drawn by warmer water temperatures.

Are Leopard Sharks Dangerous?

No. Leopard sharks are completely harmless to divers. They are shy, non-aggressive, and primarily feed on small fish and crustaceans.

Where Can You See Them?

Most commonly:

  • In 5–20 feet of water

  • Just offshore from La Jolla Shores

  • Often near The Marine Room area
